Make the most of your dance classes

Group dance classes are a great way to learn a variety of dances and meet new people along the way. To make the most of your lessons with us, we’ve prepared a few tips from some of our long standing students and teachers.

Getting ready for the lesson

  • Wear clothing that you can move easily in and is comfortable. Dance shoes will help you dance well, as they make movement easy on a dance floor. You can purchase shoes here.

  • Arrive at the studio with 15 minutes to spare. Parking can be tricky, and you’ll want to stretch, warm up, put on shoes if you have them, and sit to clear your mind of distractions.

  • Make sure you’ve eaten, and bring a water bottle. You’ll want to be free from distractions in your lesson, such as phones, hunger and other things in life.

  • You should bring a note book to make notes at the end of your lesson. This will help with retaining information later on.

Most people are nervous when they start classes, and coming up the stairs to our studio is a massive deal - but so much fun and friendship awaits you, so take the first step through the door!

At the lesson

  • Our instructors are highly knowledgeable so you’ll receive a lot of info in your lesson. Be sure to pay attention as they will give handy points to the group throughout the session.

  • Remember to relax and have fun - it takes a few sessions to get the hang of it so don’t take it too seriously.

  • Most classes have a practice session before or after that you can join in.

After the lesson

  • During the week, make time to practice - whether that be at home or at the studio - you can view the opportunities to practice here.

  • Be sure to attend our technique class on a Sunday at 6:30pm for extra practice (open to all levels) and buy dance shoes - they actually help with your dancing.

  • If you want to go over anything, or get ahead, make sure you book a private lesson here.

  • View what dances we are learning next week in our dance schedule. Remember that one class is never enough to get a feel for dancing - most people start to really enjoy themselves after 3 or 4 sessions.
